One of our most exciting initiatives began through a partnership with SETSONG TEA CRAFTERS, aimed at empowering Black women through the craft of hand-made tea bags and the selling of teas as a means of job creation.

Our journey began with the training of six women from the Mooiplaats Informal Settlement, called Ekuphumuleni. These women have now become tea sellers within their community and distributors of Setsong Tea to other locals interested in creating income through tea sales. This marks a significant step toward sustainability and community empowerment.

With the generous support of FNB, we were able to bring this pilot project to life. Their funding enabled twelve women from Mooiplaats to produce 5,000 handcrafted tea bags, which were proudly distributed at the Spar Ladies Challenge Race in 2024.

Thanks to FNB’s continued support, SMILE Impact can now provide starter packs to even more individuals, giving them the tools to launch their own small businesses.

This tea initiative has not only equipped participants with practical skills but also created income opportunities and fostered personal development.

Tea sales have exceeded our expectations, and SMILE Impact aims to replicate this model in other communities in the future.
