Garden and Recycling

Our journey began with a need to provide consistent, nutritious food to a daycare centre within the community.

Through dedication, practical training, and a shared vision, this initiative grew into a sustainable garden that not only feeds children but also creates opportunities for those involved.

Today, the garden stands as a source of nourishment, income, and empowerment, equipping individuals with skills, supporting families, and strengthening the community as a whole.

VEGETABLE GARDEN

Freshly picked vegetables are supplied daily to the daycare centre.

Spinach
Kale
Butternut
Tomatoes
Onions
Carrots
Potatoes
Beans

These fresh produce contributions help ensure consistent and nutritious meals for the children.

TRAINING AT THE GARDEN

SMILE Impact provides practical, hands-on training to support sustainable food production and income generation.

Training includes:

Teaching individuals how to sow crops consecutively to meet ongoing demand
Supplying vegetables to the daycare, local community, and their own families
Improving crop yield through understanding plant care and growing conditions
Using herbs as organic pest control for healthier, more sustainable farming

The primary focus is to provide fresh, nutritious vegetables daily to the daycare centre, helping address the lack of proper nutrition in underserved communities.

Hatfield Christian Church South (HCCS) also provides monthly opportunities for individuals to sell plants at market days, supporting small business growth and skills development.

RECYCLING

The community is located near a landfill site, making recycling a key opportunity for income generation.

In addition, individuals are taught how to create upcycled products. These items can be sold at market days and often generate a higher income than selling raw recyclable materials.
